Gamban warns players about a casino with a near-identical name
Gamban, the gambling blocking software provider, has warned users about Gambana, an online casino operated by JJam Holdings Ltd, saying it has no business relationship with it. The two names are close enough that someone trying to block gambling could land on a casino by mistake.
South African players who use blocking software, or who are helping a family member who does, can be caught out by names that look alike. Gambling blockers are one of the few self-protection tools that work across every site, because South Africa has no single self-exclusion scheme for offshore-licensed casinos. Checking that you downloaded a blocker from its official site or app store page, and typing the address yourself rather than following a link, is a cheap safeguard. If gambling is causing you harm, the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation runs a free helpline.
What Gamban said
GamblingNews reported on 16 October 2026 that Gamban has issued a warning to its users about Gambana, an online casino operated by JJam Holdings Ltd. Gamban says it has no business relationship with the casino. The company told people to be careful when checking website addresses, and asked anyone who visited Gambana believing they were using Gamban to get in touch through its official support channels and share what happened.
Gamban also said it is taking the situation seriously and working to resolve the confusion. We could not find a statement on Gamban's own website at the time of checking, so the details here rest on the GamblingNews report.
Why similar names matter
Gamban makes software that blocks access to gambling websites and apps on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices. People often install it during a hard period, for example after losses they regret or when a family member has asked them to stop. A casino with a name one letter away from the blocker is a real hazard for that group, because a typing slip or a careless search could put a casino in front of someone who has just asked for protection.
Gambana is described in the report as a crypto casino and sportsbook that rolled out a VIP rewards programme in April. We have not reviewed it and say nothing here about its licensing or how it treats players. Nothing in the report suggests the casino has done anything other than use that name.
What this means for South African players
If you use a blocker, a few habits reduce the risk:
- Install it only from the official website or a verified app store listing.
- Type the web address yourself instead of tapping an ad or a search result.
- If a page offers casino games when you expected a support tool, close it and contact the real provider.
- Tell someone you trust that you have installed a blocker, so it is harder to switch off on a bad day.

What to watch next
It is not yet clear whether Gambana will change anything, or whether any regulator will look at the naming. If either happens we will update this brief. Until then the practical lesson is simple: check the address every time.
