Wynn Resorts profit falls 80% in Q3 while its UAE resort stays on track for September 2027

In short

Wynn Resorts reported net income of $17.3 million for the third quarter, down from $88.3 million a year earlier, as revenue fell 7.9% to $1.69 billion. The company has put $1.12 billion into its UAE resort, which is scheduled to open in September 2027.

Why it matters in South Africa

Wynn has no operations in South Africa and does not accept South African players, so this is industry context only. It is useful for anyone following the wider casino business, and the UAE resort is a sign of how land-based casino markets are opening in new regions. South African players should still rely on a casino's own licence details and our reviews.

What happened

Wynn Resorts published third-quarter results on Thursday 5 November, covering the three months to 30 September. Revenue fell 7.9% to $1.69 billion from $1.83 billion. Net income attributable to Wynn dropped to $17.3 million from $88.3 million, and diluted earnings per share fell to 17 cents from 85 cents. Adjusted property EBITDAR, the company's own measure of property-level performance, fell 18.6% to $464.2 million.

Las Vegas, Macau and Boston

  • Las Vegas revenue was $575.2 million, down 7.4%. The table-games win rate was 18.9%, below the company's expected range of 22% to 26%.
  • Wynn Palace in Macau reported revenue of $583.8 million, down 8.1%, and Wynn Macau $335.4 million, down 8.2%. Occupancy at both stayed above 99%.
  • Encore Boston Harbor revenue was $194.7 million, down 8.1%, in a quarter that included a strike beginning in early September.

Over the first nine months, group revenue rose 2.5% to $5.40 billion.

The UAE project

Wynn holds a 40% stake in the joint venture building Wynn Al Marjan Island. It contributed $62.2 million during the quarter, taking its cumulative contribution to $1.12 billion. Interior fit-out work is under way and the resort is scheduled to open in September 2027, which would be Wynn's first in the UAE.

What it means for South African players

Wynn does not serve South African players, so nothing changes for you. The numbers show a large land-based operator under pressure from softer results and a lower table-games win rate, while it keeps spending on a new region. For South Africans, the practical point is that licensed, regulated casino markets differ widely. Here, online casino games are not licensed locally, so check the licence of any offshore site and read our reviews first. Gambling is for adults only and carries real risk.

What to watch next

The next markers are Wynn's fit-out progress at Al Marjan Island and its fourth-quarter figures. The company lists economic conditions, tourism trends, regulation and construction risk among the factors that could affect results.
