Zeal Network revenue up 22% in nine months as UK prize draw purchase is consolidated
German lottery broker Zeal Network reported nine-month 2026 revenue of EUR198.8 million, up 22%, after consolidating UK prize-draw operator SevenCanyon from July. It raised full-year revenue guidance to EUR270 million to EUR280 million and kept its EBITDA outlook.
Zeal is a European lottery broker, not a casino, and does not serve South African players. The story is a snapshot of how big gambling businesses are buying into lightly regulated products such as UK prize draws, and why regulators are tightening rules. South African readers can use it to see how product definitions, lottery versus casino versus prize draw, shape who regulates what. It changes nothing for players here.
What Zeal reported
Zeal Network SE, which brokers German state lotteries, reported group revenue of EUR198.8 million for the first nine months of 2026, up 22% from EUR162.6 million a year earlier. EBITDA rose 9% to EUR58.7 million, even with one-off deal costs the company described as mid-single-digit millions of euros.
The company bought the remaining 96.5% of UK prize-draw operator SevenCanyon on 9 July and included it in results for the first time in the third quarter. SevenCanyon added EUR10.5 million of revenue over the period.
The detail
Lottery revenue grew 16% to EUR170.8 million, and lottery billings rose 10% to EUR915.1 million. Average monthly active lottery users reached 1.678 million. Games revenue climbed 18% to EUR12.1 million. Zeal kept its EBITDA forecast at EUR70 million to EUR75 million and lifted full-year revenue guidance from EUR250 million to EUR260 million, to EUR270 million to EUR280 million.
Chief executive Stefan Tweraser said the broader business mix reduces exposure to jackpot cycles. He also said he expects UK prize draws to move towards more formal rules, which he thinks suits a company with long experience in regulated Germany. At present the sector sits outside traditional lottery regulation, under a voluntary government code.
What it means for South African players
Zeal does not operate in South Africa, so nothing changes for local players. The useful point is about definitions. Prize draws, lotteries and online casinos are regulated differently, and products sold on a lightly regulated side can still carry real risk of loss.
In South Africa the National Lotteries Commission and the National Gambling Board oversee different parts of the market, and no operator currently holds a licence for online casino games.
What to watch next
Watch whether the UK government moves its prize draw code toward binding rules, and whether Zeal reaches its raised revenue range by year end.
